Memorial Day

I was hoping for a day of warmth and sunshine. A day where I can finally finish my yard work, but as luck would have it, it started to rain on and off and it became quite chilly. Still, the weather didn't put a damper on the rest of our plans for today. I was determined to make it a great Memorial Day. Some of the things I love about this holiday is just being with my family, visiting the resting places of my loved ones and visiting Veterans Memorials. Truly this is a day to remember our veterans and those who have gone and whom we hold dear. We were glad to have Mom, Quinn and Ash over today for a bar-b-que and had FHE with them. Mom supplied everything for the bar-b-que (lucky us), and we had a great time. We visited 3 cemeteries and had a yummy-licious feast of meats by master griller, my very own hubby-wubby, Scott, who because of the weather, had to grill most of the time inside our garage. Aunt Joyce had to work most of the day today, but she was able to join us afterwards with Uncle Verl for dinner. I could tell she was exhausted and I wish she didn't have to work so much.

Well, we started off with a visit to cemetery #1 to see: Grandpa and Grandma Adams
Every time I met with Grandma Adams, she used to always say to me, and I stress ALWAYS, "I love you Lamanite people." That's so typical of Grandma. ;)

Then I saw the restrooms...
I'd hate to think of these honey buckets as "almost home" for me.
Then, it was off to Cemetery #2 to see:

Scott's cousin Lisa and Ken's baby daughter, Karley.

Such a precious little girl.

Out of all places to meet, we bumped into our good friends, the Chidester's. We get a kick out of Bart's poses.

As we were leaving cemetery #2, we got stuck in a little traffic at the cemetery. The road was much more narrow than usual due to vehicles parked along the side, which you can't see in these photos. Scott began to get anxious with the driver in front of us, who we'll call, Mr. Friendly, stating that "he [Mr. Friendly] wasn't being assertive enough." Mr. Friendly was allowing all on-coming traffic to pass first. Apparently, another driver behind us, who we'll call, Mr. Antsy-pants, thought along the same lines as Scott and got impatient and attempted to get out of the cemetery before us. This is what happened:
Mr. Antsy-pants didn't make too much progress because of the in-bound traffic and ended up in front of Mr. Friendly's truck. As you can see in the photo above, Mr. Antsy-pants had to drive part of his vehicle onto some of the grave markers. Talk about lack of respect folks. He had two options at this point: 1) continue driving on the headstones or 2) reverse his vehicle... and guess what he did?
He reversed his vehicle (he does have a brain after all)...to allow the rest of the in-coming traffic to pass. Mr. Antsy-pants went back to his spot behind us and waited his turn in line.

From there, we went to cemetery #3 to visit:

our friends Claudia and Henry's baby daughter, Ceanne.

Another precious little girl.

Tidy-Tiani organized the arrangements to this:

On the way home, we saw 2 Apache and 1 Blackhawk helicopters flying overhead in formation. The Apache helicopters were loaded with missile pods. It's been years since Scott and I have taken our children to a military airshow, so they were really excited to see these warriors of the air. A military airshow is an activity they have always enjoyed, so I need to fit one into our schedule somehow.

Derek and I used to go visit my Dad on Memorial Day at the National Cememtary in Riverside. What a great way to help your kids connect with their past.
